Description

An new portrait of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) extract from The Hound of Baskerville (Season 2, episode 2 of BBC's Sherlock). I wanted to work on facial expression of doubt and agitation.

Drawn with Corel Painter 12 with my loyal Wacom Cintiq 12.

Edit : I've made some changes for my spirit comfort. I prefere this version to the previous one... I've redefinied the nose and erase my first sketch mainly...

Hi there! This is my first critique, as it has to be for everybody sometime.

When I saw this painting as a thumbnail I immediately clicked to watch it in full perspective because pictures in dark rooms with backligth on an subject are often of my taste. My expectations is that I will get the feeling of a "pop out" experience.

In full perspective I must say i was pleased, I can almost feel the skin on the detective, hard and rough of his living. 4,5 star for that in vision. I'm not entirely sure on his nose, it feels broken, but maybe it should be like that ? Anyhow, that is what loses the half star. It could be more convincing if it was broken.

You are saying you want to get the feeling of fear and doubt. I don't see the fear, but surely I see disenchantment in his eyes. For the loss of fear you get the 3 stars in Impact. For fear, I wouldn't seal the mouth completely shut, just a slight gasp would done it.

I don't really know why you have chosen to have the diagonal lines on randomly darken and lighter areas, but still, the skin is wonderfull painted so for that 4 stars in technique

Originality, its not that original with portraits with black backgrounds... but I like that type of paintings, so I gave a middle grade in that <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Hope it helps! Good luck with new great creations!
